Tetra Pak has won another award for its revolutionary Tetra Rex ® Plant-based - The World’s First Renewable Package. Ethical Corporation announced Tetra Pak as winner of the Sustainable Innovation title at the Sixth Annual Responsible Business Awards ceremony in London last week. The awards celebrate responsible business practice from around the world in seventeen different categories, recognising organisations as The Tetra Rex plant-based package is claimed as the world’s first, and still only, fully renewable beverage carton. It is FSC™ -certified and made entirely of paperboard, from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources. The plastic is plant-based, made from Bonsucro certified sugarcane. Dairy company Lee Strand is using Tetra Pak’s 1l Tetra Rex Plant-based packaging for its fresh milk product. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified packaging is produced completely from paperboard and the plastic from Bonsucro certified sugarcane.

Tetra Pak has announced that the company expects to deliver more than 100m packs of its Tetra Rex Bio-based to customers during 2016. The world’s first package made entirely from plant-based materials, which launched in January 2015, is widely-used across Finland, Sweden and Norway, with brands such as Arla Foods, TINE, Valio and Vermlands Mejeri.
